What are the current pathways to diagnosis?

Every journey starts with the first step.  The routes we take may be different but there are some pathways we must take.  On this page you will find some of the standard routes to assessment and diagnosis both via the NHS and private providers. Appeer does not recommend one pathway over another.

NHS Support

Mindworks Surrey is the organisation responsible for child and adolescent mental health services in Surrey.

They manage the NHS neurodevelopmental (ND) diagnostic assessment pathway for children in schools.

Mindworks are currently not accepting new ND assessment referrals due to overwhelming demand and shortage of resources (update 30 November 2023).  For further details click here.

For requests for support made prior to September, the team are working their way through these and will be in touch in due course with the next steps.

For further details on the ND pathway and support generally, see their page here.

If you have the means there are a variety of organisations offering private assessments.  Always ask if they offer a means tested bursary (this is a reduction in fees if you are unable to meet the full cost). Please see the list below- each with a link.
