Key Strands

Our mission is to develop and make available a range of activities which are underpinned by 6 key strands, encompassing a range of personal, social, emotional, physical and mental health considerations as well as work and life skills goals. These key strands, and the objectives and assessment areas that sit within each one, have been carefully created and reviewed by SEND and autism specialists to support girls and young women’s many strengths as well as their challenges. They are each fundamental to Appeer CiC’s holistic and multifaceted approach.

The 6 key strands are as follows:

1.   About Me – girls and young women being supported to accept, be aware and celebrate themselves, including their strengths, challenges and neurodiversity

2.  People Around Me – girls and young women being supported in their social communication skills and in positive relationships, including with their peers through this organisation (online and offline)

3.  Preparing for The Future - Life Skills – girls and young women being supported to practice and develop life skills for the home and in the community and prepare for becoming women

4.  Education and/or Employment Skills – girls and young women being supported to explore and develop hobbies, skills in jobs and areas they have an interest in

5.  Emotional, Physical and Mental Health and Wellbeing – girls and young women being supported to manage and understand their emotions, their bodies and senses, and wellbeing

6.  Resilience,  Self-Advocacy and Self-Esteem – girls and young women being supported to manage and support their resilience in the face of adversity, how they feel about themselves and their confidence to use their own voices effectively to articulate themselves and their needs.
