“A Message to My Younger Self” Project for World Autism Month 2025
To celebrate World Autism Awareness Month, we would like to invite our community (autistic girls and women and their parents/carers) to take part in a “A Message to My Younger Self” project. This will be a chance to reflect on your journey, share wisdom, and offer encouragement to your younger self—and by doing so, inspire others in the community.
How to Participate:
1. Think about a letter, email or text message to your younger self at any age (e.g., childhood, teenage years, early adulthood).
2. Share your experiences, advice, and encouragement. What do you wish you had known about autism, friendships, school, work, or self-acceptance?
3. Be as creative as you like! Your letter can be heartfelt, funny, poetic, or even include drawings. Your letter could be completely illustrated if you prefer visual storytelling!
4. Submit your letter using the form in the link below.
Themes you might explore:
• Advice on self-acceptance and embracing your autistic identity
• Encouragement during difficult times (e.g., school, friendships, sensory challenges)
• Lessons learned about strengths, passions, and special interests
• A message of hope for the future
Sharing & Recognition:
• Appeer will feature selected letters on our website and social media throughout April and beyond.
• Some letters may be included in a published book if we have enough submissions!
Send a message to your younger self by completing this form.
Help the form hasn't worked for me!
If you are having trouble with the form. No worries. Just send an email to
cathryn@appeer.org.uk with your message on. Let here know the age you are now and the age you are writing to!
Is there a deadline for submissions?
As the project is for World Autism Month 2025 (April) we will need all submissions in to us by 30th April 2025.
